U.S. regulatory status
FDA-approved (brand products) for type 2 diabetes, chronic weight management and obstructive sleep apnea with obesity. Prescription required.
What it is
A single peptide that activates two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1.
How it is thought to work
Combining both signals improves the insulin response and reduces appetite more than GLP-1 alone did in head-to-head trials.
Animations simplify biology for teaching. They are not a claim that this peptide works this way in people.
What the research shows
Phase 3 trials show average weight loss of about 20% at the highest dose over roughly 72 weeks, along with better blood sugar control.
Safety and considerations
Similar to semaglutide: gastrointestinal side effects are common early, with rare pancreatitis and gallbladder issues and the same thyroid cancer warning. Protecting muscle matters.
Our position
Used inside the same framework as semaglutide: medicine plus muscle, protein and measurement.
