U.S. regulatory status
FDA-approved for osteoporosis at high risk of fracture. Prescription required.
What it is
The first 34 amino acids of parathyroid hormone.
How it is thought to work
Given once a day as a brief pulse, it stimulates bone-building cells. Constantly high parathyroid hormone does the opposite and breaks bone down.
Animations simplify biology for teaching. They are not a claim that this peptide works this way in people.
What the research shows
Large trials show fewer spine and non-spine fractures in people with osteoporosis.
Safety and considerations
Dizziness, leg cramps and temporarily high calcium. Not for people with Paget’s disease, prior skeletal radiation or open growth plates.
Our position
Our clearest teaching example of the pulsatility principle, and a real tool for bone health.
