U.S. regulatory status
Investigational; not FDA-approved. Compounded versions have been named in FDA warning letters as unapproved new drugs. Use only within a clinical trial.
What it is
A single peptide that activates GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon receptors.
How it is thought to work
Adding glucagon activity may raise energy use and reduce liver fat on top of reducing appetite.
Animations simplify biology for teaching. They are not a claim that this peptide works this way in people.
What the research shows
In a phase 2 trial, average weight loss was about 24% at 48 weeks at the highest dose. Phase 3 trials are reporting, and the manufacturer plans to seek approval.
Safety and considerations
Expected class effects similar to GLP-1 medicines, plus possible heart-rate increases. Long-term safety is still being studied.
Our position
We discuss it often and do not touch it until it is approved.
